All In a days work

094095096097

These flowers were a breeze to make and I found them through a link party here and I hope that you will visit the creator of this design. I love all the many ways that she used them, and I thought that making a brooch or hair flower out of them would make them useable for me.

I also made a few coffee cup cozies. These are super easy. Next time to go to Starbucks grab an extra cardboard sleeve and open it flat. Take off the over hang piece and cut out your fabric. I used pre-quilted fabric that I had laying around in my stash. A few quick passes with my sewing machine and it was all done.

I didn’t want to waste the scraps from making the cozies so I thought about what could I make out of these cute little pieces. I made small key fobs. I just decided on the shape that I wanted and cut two matching pieces and added a small piece of ribbon and when I was finished sewing over the edge with a zig-zag stitch.

Mini Journals

DSC09082DSC09083DSC09084DSC09085

Here is a few of the mini journal sets that I have been churning out. I have been a busy person. I truly feel like I am doing what I should be doing.

God is so good to me. I have a wonderful family that supports my art and stand beside me. I have prayed about what I should do with my art and I feel like God is truly opening doors where I never knew there was one at. Thank you all for reading my blog and I hope that I am able to inspire you to try something creative. to take a leap of faith and be able to express yourself through art.

Book Remakes

DSC09057
I have been working my fingers to the bone making re-made books and journals. I am so excited with what has come out of all the work.
I took a thrifted hardback book and cut off the spine and the internal pages with a sharp blade. It was very easy if you keep the book closed and the blade right up against the cover.
I do not have any in progress photos but I do have what it looks like on the inside. I used scraps and other papers that I have laying around and also included a few left over pages from when I made a Remains of the day journal with the Mary Jane Moss class. I found how to do this style of bookbinding via YouTube. I didn’t just watch one video so I really can’t recommend any certain one. This binding lays flat no matter where you open the book.

This is the first page of the journal. I love the end papers.

So random scrapbook paper that I had in my stash.

A few more random scraps, made in to pages .

I have 2 more ready to bind and 4 more sets of covers needing pages. I really am enjoying the process and know that I will have some extras on sale in my shop soon. I will be at a local show on July 4th and will have them available. If you would like more information please let me know. I would love for you to stop by and see me.

My Day

Today started out very early this morning. I decided that I wanted to redo my studio space. I started off with a mess. I am being brave and showing a before picture here.

DSC08916

I started by dividing all of my tools and materials by what they are used for. I also organized all of my papers into 12x12 plastic envelopes. I had purchased a vintage spice rack at my local thrift shop planning on using it for my buttons. So I asked my girls if they wanted to sort them and they acted like I asked them if they wanted Ice cream. It was so cute.

DSC08910

This was such a great way to occupy them for a couple of hours. I had 2 large button jars and they sorted them all. I seem to end up with everyone’s buttons because people are always asking if I would like them.

DSC08913

In the end Shae ended up do most of the work, by herself. She loved it though.

DSC08934DSC08935

She had to put the White, Black and Gold buttons into larger jars, I have no clue how I ended up with so many of those colors.

I still have a little bit of neatening but I love how it is coming along. I turned the drafting table sideways and now it is facing the living room but I have a couple of old shutters that I use to divide the room. It also allows for easy access to the supplies stored under my table.

DSC08929

I have bins for paper and magazines. The basket holds all of my paper tools. (I keep things that I don’t use all the time in this basket but I wanted to keep it close for easy access. The table is for my sewing machine and for my laptop.

The little doll was a gift from my youngest daughter Shae. She told me that it was for me to keep, and I couldn’t take it apart for the buttons. I promised here that I wouldn’t.

I use a scrap of fabric to cover an empty veggie can. I love the black and white.

Mixed Media Tutorial

DSC08633

Here is where I set up an outside studio at the park . I decided to spend a couple of hours at my local park that I love because it has such a large covered pavilion.

Supply list:

Brown Kraft Paper (roll)

Paint brush 1” at least (Not FOAM)

Craft acrylic paint:

    • Wasabi (Green)
    • Golden Yellow
    • Hawaii
    • Pink Blast
    • White
    • Magenta

DSC08623

I started out with a large sheet of brown craft paper and then added a little white paint. I used a wide 1 inch brush and used it throughout the whole project where I was adding bold strokes of color.

DSC08624

Next I applied paint right out of the bottle (No need to use a palette here).

DSC08625

Next with the brush I moved the paint around in a very geometric patter of lines and squares. The color here is Wasabi , it is a bright green.

DSC08627

Next I added my favorite shade of Yellow “Golden Yellow” I continued the same geometric shapes with all of the colors

The Next color that I added called Hawaii.

DSC08630DSC08631

I used “Pink Blast” as my final color and added striped of color.

This is what the final piece after I brought is home and added starburst, spirals and circles in White and Magenta.
