Get Creative Today
Today it's all about lettering. I am in the process of creating a new coloring book full of quotes. I'm am really enjoying the process and how each one has a different style of lettering. I want to share a glimpse behind the scenes at a few that I have in the works.
I ended up creating this one as a solid and I will invert it once I get it into the computer. This one will also have some flowers around it as well when it is finished.
Adding the details and designs to this quote was a long process. I really enjoy adding all of the details and I find it a relaxing process.
I am trying to decide if I want to add designs to these letters or If I want to leave them plain so that the person who colors it can add their own spin to it.
I decide to add a textured shadow to this one to add interest and depth. I like playing around with these types of lettering because of the 3D effect.

Let's Get Creative with Mixed Media Valentines Pt1
Today we will be making some Mixed Media Valentines. These are made with Vintage Sewing Book Paper, Decoart Paints
I did not start out making these papers to become valentines. I was just making some quick background paper for collage fodder. I love making background papers to add to my stash so that I always have pattern paper on hand when I am ready to create. I really don't want my stencils to have a clean look I want them to look distressed and like they are old and weathered. This really helps to make them just a textural element instead of a focal element. I love just have them for layers when I begin to work on an art journal page.
Once I started to add the markers to the page I could see how these would make good heart shapes to add to some handmade valentines. I love making handmade valentines instead of buying a pre-made one. It really seems to have more meaning behind it because I took the time to make something from just a few supplies instead of just picking on off the shelf. I know that knot everyone has the ability to make them so even if it is bought it has meaning as well.
I hope you have enjoyed this look at making Mixed Media Valentines and will come back next week to see how I will finished them into a finished project.

Upcycled Storage Containers
All you need is a few supplies:
I used DecoArts Americana Multi-Surface Satin paint for this project in the following colors:
Instructions:
Make sure that the surface of your container is clean and dry.
Apply 2 or 3 colors of your base color to the surface of the container with a foam brush. Let each layer dry in between.
Using the daubers make a repeating pattern of circles. I also used the daubers to make stripes.
Once every thing is dry apply a thin coat of DuraClear Satin Varnish let dry and apply one more coat.
Disclosure: I received the paint used in this project at no charge from DecoArts as a part of their Helping Artist Program and this post includes links to sponsors or affiliates, which give me a small percentage of the sale. You are not obligated to use these links when you make a purchase, but when you do so it helps to support this site, so thank you!

DecoArts Americana Multi-Surface Satin Paint DIY Paint Chip Book
Last week I received a shipment of the DecoArts American Multi-Surface Satin Paints. I have every color that comes in the 8 oz size. There are 20 colors in this size and they have a wide range of colors as well as some great primaries that can be blended into many different colors.
I had been gifted a stash of Avery address labels and thought that this would be the perfect way to create my own paint chart. It is great to have exact samples of the paint once it has been painted and dried. Using these bright white labels are a great way to get a true color sample.

Next I placed them in the book while organizing the color into color families and stapled the top and bottom of each page so that it would not open up all the way.
