The View from My Lens

The beauty of God’s creation is everywhere these days. I love the sight of spring flowers and the smell of the cherry blossoms. They really whisper of a wonderful Creator who cares enough to make the flowers bloom each spring and who cares for us and know us by name. Where every you are today take a look around and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation and know that He is only a prayer away in every situation that you might be facing. When you have no one else to turn to. When you have more burdens than ways out. When you feel all alone in this world. Remember that He is always there to help you. All you need to do is trust in him and ask him to lead you in the way you should go. He will help you no matter how dark the trial is you can let Him in and His light will show you the way through. Remember there is no storm that He cannot not calm with just a few simple words “Peace be still” and the storm has to obey. One of the most helpful things that I always try to keep in mind whenever trouble comes my way is, “ He will always bring us through the trial if we have the faith to stand up and ask Him to help us”. You might not have the strength to make a loud cry for help, but He can hear you even if it is only a whisper.

I have been through trials that I never though I would make it through, I have faced situations that I thought I would lose it all, but God has always stepped in right on time to help me through. His time is not always our time, but he will come through even if there seems to be no way out. He has helped me to see that I cannot walk this path on my on but I need His hand to guide me and to help me along this journey.

We are hear to make a difference in this world and not just be here. We are called to be a witness and stand out from the crowd and not be like everyone else. I know what it is like to feel like I have to fit in or blend in, but that is not what I am called to be. I am called to be a light in this world and not fade into the darkness. This world is filled with darkness and we are surrounded on every side, but light and dark don’t coexist and if we are the light we need to SHINE. This is not the post that I set out to write but these are the words that come from my heart and I hope that you are open to receive them and let them light your path and help you to see that God has his hand in your life and you can overcome any situation that you face if you will let Him lead the way.

An experiment with photography

I decided to choose an object and photograph it in various locations and using various settings.

These were fun to shoot, let me know which one you like best. I am trying to play around with this camera, and using various focal lengths and aperture settings.

More Inspiration

Here is the promised journal pages. I hope that you are inspired by the pages as I was when I created them.

These pages were created in a spiral bound journal that I purchased from my local Hobby Lobby. I do not remember the name of the manufacture but the pages are fairly think and hold up well to watercolor crayons and colored pencils. The markers that I have used have done well and It has not bled through. I have used Faber Castle Pitt pens in various shades of gray and black and they have worked well. The second picture uses clothing tags as a border around the page. Tags these days have come a long way and designers use them to “Brand” their clothing so why not take advantage of this great pieces of Ephemera.

These pages were painted with a scraping technique using a old gift card. I then used black and white images of both of my girls to create a page for each of them , about each of them in my journal. They were excited because I created pages for them in my book. I really like the way that they turned out.

Inspiration Wednesday

I know that most people post their inspiration post on Mondays, but I felt like being a little different today. I have been working like crazy in my journals over the blog break that I took during the month of February. I have a lot to post so I will warn that this will be a picture heavy post. I decided to try out my new camera with a few stylizes pictures of my pages Alisa Burke Style. I love the way that she styles her pictures and how the focus is not on the whole page but small glimpses of the image. Please let me know what you think, as I am trying to learn a new camera by take a lot of pictures. The brown journal is from Papersource and has brown craft paper pages that are very thick and are great even with heave markers use has little to no bleed.

I was trying different lettering styles with this page and focusing on using only black and white to make a very monochromatic page.

This page is just another example of me playing with lettering styles. I had planned on making a page a day for a week but stopped after Monday. I might still go back and add pages in this book for the rest of the days of the week.

A New Camera and Viewpoint

I have a wonderful new camera, a Sony DSLR a230 and I love it. I will be taking some shot of my latest journal pages soon. I have completed a good many and Have a couple in progress.

I created this quilted journal cover. I made this with some scrap fabric that I have laying around and I really like the way that it turned out. I quilted it with a large grid pattern.

An enjoyably creative month

I have really enjoyed the month off and feel like I have refreshed my creative outlook. I am planning on coming back with a vengeance. I will be posting things over the next few days that I have completed over my break. I hope you will come by and check out the tutorials that I will be posting soon.

101th post and a Break

This is my 101th post and I would like to announce a break for the rest of this month to focus on being creative and when I start back posting I hope to have some very interesting subjects. I read this book and just could not put it down. It is a very easy read with great depth, and the dialog is good and the story really moves very smoothly with no long slow areas.
It is set in the golden age of Newport, Rohode Island. 1899 sees this local filled with ladies of leisure, sleek yachts and beautiful vistas. With "Dashing young men and the women who aspire to marry them. " This story is about a young woman who bucks the tradition that a woman's work is in the home buy writing "Dime Novels" a disreputable professing that is not fit for a lady of her social stature. You will follow her through the ups and downs of hiding such a secret and how she learns to trust the ones around her with this knowledge. The premise of standing up for what you believe in no matter what the cost is seen throughout this book. It is a great read and I know that you will enjoy this light and airy read. This is the first in the series and I am planning on purchasing the rest, because this one was so well written. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Nook/Kindle Cover Tutorial

This is a very easy thing to make. All you need to do is have a little bit of fabric, a hot glue gun and some inspiration.  Supply list and full tutorial after the jump. This can be adapted for a Kindle also.

A Crazy Few Days

It has been crazy around here for the past few day. Last week it was getting back into the groove of going to work everyday. Over the weekend I was working to create a couple of tutorials, I purchased a Barnes and Noble Nook E—reader and have been working on a tutorial for the cover that I made for it. I hope to have it posted in the next couple of days. Well It might be up today If I can get the pictures out of my camera. I can’t seem to find the thumb drive for my camera phone so now of the pictures from there will be loaded right now, unless I take them from my Facebook page. This week has been 2 snow days in a row.  The picture above is from today. All the beautiful snow you see is no longer the fluffy white stuff it is a solid block of ice, but it is still beautiful. This GA girl loves to see the snow because we don’t get it that often. My girls have spent every min that they have been allowed outside, and are enjoying the second day out in a row. I have enjoyed all the time I have gotten to spend reading. If you don’t have a Nook yet go and download the free Nook for PC app and start enjoying all the free books. When you do purchase a Nook the books will transfer to it seamlessly. I did this before I made my purchase and I now have over 100 books that I have gotten for free and a lot are new fiction as well as all the free books from Kaplan publishing that are free until Jan 17. These include all their Test Study guides, and business books as well as a few great teaching titles. I know that I have multiple ads on my blog for the Kindle, but I made the decision to purchase the Nook after comparing them both and deciding which one was right for me. I will be posting a few book reviews as well this week. I have been able to read a lot more books faster because I am able to make the print to large that it is easier to read a book with out having to struggle to see the print.

Happy New Year

2010 is over and it was a very hard year for most, but sometimes I think that people let the calendar dictate their lives, they don’t just watch the clock but they let the calendar dates tell them when they can make a new start. Each year on this day lots of people make resolutions, wither it is to lose weight, be a better person, or change other things in their life. I think that if we have to wait on a certain date on the Calendar to start over then we are deceiving ourselves about the changes we have planned. If you really want to make changes to your situation you can do it right when you think about it, in that moment when first imagine it, and not wait until some date in the future.

Real change comes when we determine in our hearts that some things are needed and then decided to take the step in that direction. We have to pursue the change with our heads in the direction that our hearts lead us.

When we wait to make a change most of the times it never happens because we have put it off once and then unconsciously we feel it can be put off again.

I have made a list of things that I want to do or do differently during this year, but I did not make them on New Years eve. I made them on My Birthday Oct. 21. I made a list of 32 things that I wanted to do while I am 32. This list was not just things that I might want to change but things that I want to do with my girls, places that I want to see, and other things. On the night before my birthday I made a list of 31 things that made my year unique. I used this as a way to reflect over the past year and to prepare for moving on to another year of my life.

I have made other list at different times during the year that I wanted to have happen before the end of the year, or before my birthday, and these list have a way of getting completed. I find that writing a list, I mean really writing it down with pen and paper, really helps to make it more real, and not just in my head. I am surprised sometimes when I look back over the list, and see that most if not all have been accomplished. I have made list in my journals and never looked at them again until months have passed and realize that I have completed the list without even realizing it. This amazes me that my mind has determined to complete what I started.

I guess the point I have behind all this rambling is that we should not be dictated by a date on a piece of paper as to when we can make a change. We should begin each day as if it is the first day to make a difference; the first day to make fulfill our dreams.

God has placed each of us here for a purpose and we need to find what his purpose for our lives is and make sure that we stay on the path that will lead us to the fulfillment of that purpose.

I read something this morning that struck a cord with me, it said: “We need to remember the core of who we are is a sprit born in the image of Christ who is sent here to fulfill a purpose before going back home.”

I hope that each of you take a moment to reflect on the purpose that you were put here for and let God show you where He wants to lead you and which path to take toward fulfilling that plan. Have a wonderful day and a Happy New Year.
